Water & Energy Sustainable Technology Center
One of the objectives of the Water & Energy Sustainable Technology Center project was to demonstrate and showcase Pima County's sustainability goals through the use of water harvesting and indigenous landscape plants. WDG's project team provided hardscape, water harvesting, and planting and irrigation designs to create an educational landscape for the Center. Techniques and features include microbasins, gabion weirs, curb cuts, and swales with check dams. Fine grading directs site and parking stormwater runoff to recessed planting areas.
Swales that mimic natural landforms help tie the designed landscape into the surrounding Sonoran Desert environement.
Custom-designed gabion weirs introduce an architectural component into the landscape and compliments building facades.
